Our team is composed of journalists, editors, authors, and poets from the world’s most recognized journalistic, literary, and financial institutions.     Joe Flood

    Founder and Managing Partner

    Joe Flood leads our team of accomplished writers, researchers, and producers. He is an award-winning nonfiction author of the book The Fires, and a veteran financial and data journalist. Joe holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard.

    Renny McPherson

    Co-Founder

    Renny McPherson is a decorated former Marine Corps officer with 15 years of experience leading startups, growth companies, and military intelligence units. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School after completing his military career and holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard.

    Chris Edmonds

    Director of Operations & Senior Editor

    Chris Edmonds handles our team's day-to-day operations. He joined N2 after more than a decade working as a newspaper editor, reporter, and online producer. He has a degree in English and classical languages from Holy Cross.

    Madeleine Baverstam

    Senior Editor & Writer

    Madeleine Baverstam is an editor and writer with N2. She previously spent five years as a fact-checker at the New Yorker magazine, where she also writes. She fact-checked Jeffrey Toobin’s book American Heiress, about the kidnapping of Patty Hearst, and worked as a researcher for David Grann. Madeleine studied history and literature at Harvard.

    Dan Dzombak

    Senior Editor & Writer

    Dan Dzombak has been writing about investing and economics for 9 years, with work featured in The Motley Fool, Time, USA Today, and Business Insider. He received his BS in economics from the George Washington University.

    James Longley

    Editor & Writer

    James Longley is an editor and writer at N2 with an expertise in tech and data. He provides project management for high-volume, fast-paced projects. Based in the Bay Area, he holds an MFA in creative writing from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and is co-editor of LVNG, a journal of poetry and art.

    Lindsay Elliott

    Producer & Editor

    Lindsay Elliott produces projects for N2, including technical, creative, and financial efforts. He previously led technical sales operations for a Fortune 500 energy company. He studied English literature and molecular biophysics at Yale.

    Lizzie Presser

    Writer & Editor

    Lizzie Presser is a journalist whose writing on government policy has appeared in The Guardian, Harper’s, and Politico, among many others. She has researched and fact-checked for A Path Appears, the New York Times best-selling book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, and for the award-winning PBS documentary Half the Sky. She has an MPhil in Public Policy from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Gates Cambridge Scholar, and a BA from Princeton University. She's also an unlicensed haircutter and occasional acrobalancer.

    Jody Avirgan

    Podcast Producer

    Jody Avirgan runs 30 for 30 Podcasts, part of ESPN Films. He also developed FiveThirtyEight Podcasts, where he continues to host, report and edit. He's the host of the FiveThirtyEight politics podcast, where he covered the 2016 campaign, and was host of What's The Point, a show about how data affects our lives. Prior to arriving at ESPN, he was a producer at WNYC radio and has worked with shows such as On The Media, Marketplace, Freakonomics, and many more. On the side he hosts the comedy and storytelling series Ask Roulette.

    Steven Ujifusa

    Corporate Historian

    Steven Ujifusa specializes in telling stories of American business leadership, both as an acclaimed popular historian for Simon & Schuster and as a writer of “works for hire” for public and private companies. In 2012, the Wall Street Journal named his first book, A Man and His Ship, as one of the 10 best nonfiction books of the year. He has recently completed the official corporate history of Airgas, Inc. He has appeared on National Public Radio, CBS Sunday Morning, Knowledge@Wharton, and numerous other media outlets. He received his undergraduate degree in history

    from Harvard University and a joint masters in historic preservation and real estate development from the University of Pennsylvania.

    Mervyn Degaños

    Podcast Producer

    Mervyn Degaños is a podcast and radio producer. He's worked for Gimlet Media, Runner's World, and various private and corporate clients. A former corporate attorney, Mervyn earned his JD from University of California Hastings and is licensed to practice in California.

    Susanna Reed

    Editor & Transcriber

    Susanna is a motorcycle-riding, aerial silks-climbing Latin teacher who writes and blogs on the side. A devoted linguistics nerd, she transcribes and edits for N2 because English grammar thrills her as much as ancient Greek poetry.

    Brooke Watkins

    Editor & Transcriber

    Brooke Watkins is a transcriber, copy editor, proofreader, and researcher. She holds a master's in library science from Pratt Institute and an MFA in fiction from Brooklyn College. She is an amateur shoemaker and plays accordion in the gypsy jazz band The Wisterians.

    Christopher Young

    Finance Manager

    Christopher Young handles business, finance, and operational details. A former a cappella reality show contestant, Christopher holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester.
